At Bookscapes, we love giving books new life! Learn more about how you can trade in your cherished reads for store credit or donate books to support our mission and local non-profits. We've made the process simple and transparent.

Frequently asked questions about trade-ins and donations

We've gathered the most common questions about trading in or donating books to Bookscapes. Our goal is to make it easy for you to understand our process and what we're looking for, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone.

How does the trade-in process work and what do I get in return?

Trade-ins and donations are accepted anytime the bookstore is open. All accepted trade-ins will be issued store credit. Example: Donate one Trade Paperback Book and receive Half Off your next purchase of one Trade Paperback Book. When books are brought in, we will go through them to determine which books we will be able to accept for Trade. If we decide a book is not the right fit, we will either return the book to you or donate to local non-profits such as Underground Railroad Thrift Shop (Saginaw), Shelterhouse Thrift Store (Midland), or Saginaw & Midland Public Libraries. 

If I am unable to carry boxes of books, Will someone be available to help?

Arrangments can be made to to pick up your donations/trades from your home or from your car in the parking lot. Contact Jeni@bookscapesmi.com to make those arrangements.

Are there any types of books or items you can't accept for trade-ins or donations?

We will not take any books (even for donation) that are soiled, wet, moldy, musty, or smell like cigarette smoke. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our collection in excellent condition.

We also do not accept Library Discards/Ex-Library Books for trade as we do not typically sell them. However, you are welcome to donate them and we will find them a good home.

When can I bring my books for trade-in or donation?

You can bring your books for trade-in or donation during our regular business hours. We will be happy to assist you with the process and answer any additional questions you may have.
